JONES FAMILY
Tony and I toured most private schools in the York area. We wanted Zoe to have the Catholic school education and continuous biblical teachings and values. Due to being a bi-racial family we wanted Zoe to have diversity while growing up. It was important that Zoe appreciate and understand various cultures and family diversity. We felt St. Patrick offered the broadest level of diversity. Lastly, we live in the city and truly have come to understand and appreciate the community. Tony is a fire fighter for the city. The York City community is kind and caring. York City often has a bad reputation but my family has always felt safe and secure here. We love having St. Patrick in the city and a part of this community. Zoe loves her teachers and staff at SPCS!! She has some learning disabilities and academic struggles. The staff at St. Patrick has “put their arms around her” and found us resources. They teach her patiently and individually. SPCS has taken an investment in my child’s future. Tony and I are extremely grateful and appreciative to have found a team like the one at SPCS. The biggest surprise about St. Patrick, for us, is the politeness of the students. I had the privilege to serve lunch a few times. The lunch line rule is that each child take everything that was offered. They do not have to eat it but must take it. I served the green beans that day. I was shocked that every child, yes every, thanked me for those green beans. The manners I saw during lunch was eye opening and heightened my respect for SPCS staff even more. Lastly, I was surprised at the level of devotion that the PTO parents have for the students. They plan and execute the best parties and events. Zoe has a blast with her friends. Just seeing her have these experiences has motivated me to help more. The thing we value most about Catholic Education is the honesty, respect and personal behavior accountability. The education is extremely important but we equally want Zoe to grow up kind and know God. Lastly, SPCS views the parents as a child’s primary educator. SPCS realizes that it is the parents responsibility to raise their children to be kind, loving, upstanding, productive citizens. We would like to see more transparent and honest conversations about status of Catholic Education for St. Patrick and the deanery as a whole. I often hear about things through other parents. I would appreciate hearing more through newsletters or town hall meetings. Our goal is to help the school thrive for Zoe and the students in the York county community. If we know exactly what the problems are we can try to help fix them.
